Are Non Surgical Procedures Worth it?

Are non surgical procedures worth it? Well, the answer to that is never going to be cut and dry. Because it’s always going to matter how you finish that sentence: worth it to who? In other words, the patient’s preferences are going to be one of the major factors that determine who is going to find a non surgical cosmetic procedure worth it and who is not.

Are Non Surgical Procedures Worth it to Patients?

Non surgical procedures are famous for creating subtle transformations with only a tiny amount of discomfort. But are non surgical procedures worth it? Are those results apparent enough to justify the costs? Or the costs of the multiple maintenance injections you’ll have to undergo in order to keep those results?

Now, in some ways, those are questions we could ask about any plastic or cosmetic surgery procedure. For any given patient, it’s important that those procedures be worth the cost. Otherwise, what’s the point?

But non surgical procedures are still relatively novel, even though they’ve been around for the better part of a decade now. So I think it’s fair to ask about cosmetic procedures and how they might stack up. Because there’s definitely something popular about these procedures. Any cosmetic surgery procedure that’s been around for over ten years has proven its popularity. And, to a certain extent, this is a question that can only be answered on an individual level. Are non surgical procedures worth it? Depends on what you’re after.

The Value of Non Surgical Alternative Procedures

It might be useful to first take a look at why these non surgical alternative procedures have such a wide appeal in the first place. Imagine undergoing a surgical rhinoplasty procedure. Your recovery period will take anywhere between six and twelve months–and you won’t even be able to see your finalized results until that recovery is complete. It can be a frustrating process, even if you love the results at the end of it.

So you can see why a quick, non surgical alternative nose job might suddenly become quite appealing. Not only can you see the results right away, but you don’t have to deal with any kind of long term recovery. The whole thing can be completed in as little as fifteen minutes.

And the only real drawbacks are that the procedure is relatively subtle and the results wane after 18-24 months. For many patients, those drawbacks are incredibly minor compared to the benefits of a non surgical nose job. It’s easy to see where you might encounter some pretty high patient satisfaction–and why non surgical alternative procedures remain as popular as they are.

Are They Worth it?

Ultimately, answering the “worth it” question (as you tend to find on websites such as Realself) depends on a variety of individualized factors. For some patients, there’s no question that a non surgical nose job, for example, will be worth it. But for other patients, that answer might not be so clear.

There are a couple of questions to ask yourself if you’re thinking about whether or not this procedure will be worth it to you:

  • Do you want to take your nose job results for a test drive before settling on an overall look? If you do, a non surgical nose job might be a good option.
  • Do you want to add or subtract volume from your nose? If you want to subtract volume, surgery might be your best bet, but non surgical techniques are quite good at adding volume.
  • Do you want surgery? If you don’t want surgery, then it’s immediately pretty clear which procedure is going to be more worth it to you.
  • Do you want to see immediate results? And how important are immediate results to you? If you absolutely don’t want to wait to see results, a non surgical approach might be best.

This list of questions could keep going, of course. But you can see how, very quickly, the “best” option is the one that most suits your desired results. And that’s going to change from patient to patient.

Sometimes it’s About Cost

None of these procedures are free, of course, and medical insurance very rarely covers aesthetic procedures of any kind. Which means you’ll likely be paying out of pocket for your procedure, whichever way you go. Which means that monetary cost is always going to be a factor in these decisions.

Rhinoplasty surgery is easily going to cost over $10,000 when you include anesthesia. Non surgical procedures can be much less expensive, anywhere between $2000 – $5000 depending on the surgeon. So a non surgical nose job will save you money. But you only have to pay for surgery once–where as you’ll need regular maintenance injections for a non surgical approach. And that will mean more costs.

There’s no right way to do this and there’s no right answer. Are non surgical procedures worth it? It depends on your perspective and what you’re trying to achieve.
